Our Story

Welcome to Community of Joy Lutheran Church, a congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America! Community of Joy (COJ) is a joyful community with a passion for God’s mission. We began as a Lutheran mission-start to the new community of Rio Rancho in 1987. For almost two decades our community worshiped in rented spaces, from restaurants to schools. We found a home in our current building in 2004. In each chapter of our life together God, has worked in us and through us and we can’t wait to discover what God has in store for us next!

Today COJ is a community that is committed to experiencing the unconditional love of Christ together and sharing it with the world in word and deed. Like our context, we are a diverse group; and we consider this a great blessing. We look different, come from different areas, and hail from different spiritual backgrounds- from cradle Lutherans and Catholics, to folks from non-denominational and non-religious backgrounds. But we are joyfully one in Christ! We welcome you to visit and experience joy!
